Willy Wonka party!

My gorgeous nephew Jack celebrated his 7th birthday recently, and as his birthday present I offered to throw him a birthday party. I asked him to pick a theme… and he decided on WILLY WONKA! What a fun 7th birthday theme!

Naturally the first thing that came to mind was to have a ‘golden ticket’ invitation. Cue my very talented brother James, owner of Studiosix. James created a golden ticket invitation and wonka bar wrapper based on the original Willy Wonka movie, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The Wonka wrapper was wrapped around a small chocolate bar, with the golden ticket invitation inside the wrapper.

Imagine the excitement receiving this birthday invite as a 7 year old!!

I found some brightly coloured stripey wrapping paper (which is pictured behind the golden ticket invite) and decided to base the party colour palette on these bold, bright colours.

So after the invitation was sorted the next decision was what to make for the cake, being the centrepiece of the dessert buffet. Following on from the bright coloured wrapping paper theme I decided to make a rainbow cake.

After a few hours of carving, ganaching, covering in fondant and decorating here is the finished cake, in the shape of Willy Wonka’s hat, positioned on the pARTy buffet:

The pARTy buffet was the feature of the room, featuring the Wonka hat cake, ‘J’ cookies (for Jack), coloured popcorn, lollipops, chocolate spoons, cupcakes and an array of brightly coloured lollies.

Another table was set for the 10 guests. Cookies were wrapped in cellophane bags at each setting and a note was attached from the birthday boy, which doubled as a thank you gift and a placecard.

Each guest was also given a bright take-home party bag filled with Wonka themed lollies, a giant lollipop and some other party goodies.

Unfortunately the weather was not on our side so we decided to hold the party inside, rather than in the garden as planned. These bright decorations helped to brighten up the room on a rainy day!

Coloured plates were wrapped in cellophane and hung from the window as lollies…

After a bit of convincing my Dad agreed to dress up as Willy Wonka and greet the guests as they entered ‘the factory’. Sorry Dad I know you aren’t going to like this but I couldn’t resist.. Here he is!
